Principal's Welcome
September 6, 2019
Good Afternoon Stratfield Families,
We have had a great start to our school year! Thank you for your continued support in making the start of the school year wonderful. Our pre-k and kindergarten students are quickly acclimating themselves to the building and enjoyed their first encounter with the Stratfield Starfish at our C.A.R.E.S Assembly today. During this whole school assembly, we reviewed that Stratfield C.A.R.E.S by showing Cooperation, Assertion, Respect, Empathy and Self-Control. We reviewed the expectations throughout the building and on the bus as well for all students, and I was able to share two of my favorite books, Try a Little Kindness and Remarkably You with students. Mrs. French showed a slideshow of the first few days of school at Stratfield with tons of photos to capture our first few days of school and the special times we have already shared!
We will begin STAR Assessments in literacy and math next week for students in grades 1-5. These short universal screening assessments are taken on the computer and provide teachers with a piece of data which when combined with classroom assessments can help us design small group instruction to meet the individual needs of all students. We will also administer our Fall Core Screens for Kindergarten students the week of 9/23.
We hope to see all families on the 17th for our “Get Acquainted Night”/ Open House. This is an opportunity for all families to visit their child’s classroom to hear about the curriculum and expectations for their child’s grade level. If you would like to visit a specialist: Art, PE, Music, Library, Gifted, STEAM, Language Art’s Specialists, Math Specialists, Resource teachers, etc. these visits will be from 6:40 – 7:00 PM. We will meet for a quick kick-off in the gymnasium and classroom visitations/presentations will be from 7:25 – 7:55 PM and 8:00 – 8:30 PM.
Lastly, if you would like to follow Stratfield on twitter for tweets about all of the exciting learning that is happening at Stratfield School, please follow Ms. McGoey@Stratfield School.
Have a wonderful weekend!
Respectfully,
Ms. McGoey
