January 29, 2020

Good afternoon,

As we finish up with our last week in January there are a few updates and a few exciting things to report.

  • STAR: All grade levels have taken the winter administration of STAR.  These STAR parent reports will be made available to all parents on Thursday, February 13th. The reports can be viewed in the backpack on IC that afternoon.

  • 5th Grade Invention Convention: Exciting news! Parents of fifth grade students are invited to the Stratfield Invention Convention, which will be held on February 28th.  Parents are invited to the school from 2:00-3:20 PM to see all of the creative innovations and inventions that the fifth grade students will be presenting.   We look forward to seeing you!

  • Cell Phones and Watches: Please remind all children that cell phones need to remain in backpacks both on the bus and in school.  Additionally, if watches are worn they should not be used for texting during school and should not be a distraction to learning in the classroom.

  • Girls on the Run: The Girls on the Run Team Stratfield will start their spring season this March.  If you are interested, please contact Coach Francoletti at [email protected]. Additionally a flyer was sent to the PTA newsletter that contains additional information.

Our students have had so many exciting events over the last few weeks. These events are funded and organized by our PTA.  We are so very thankful for the PTA’s dedication to bringing our students these outstanding learning experiences.

  • Stratfield partnered with Burr and McKinley for the MLK Performance Amazing Grace.  Each year our 5th graders have the opportunity to see this powerful presentation and reflect upon the impact of Martin Luther King Jr.

  • Our Kindergarten students were amazed at the Dinosaur Rock Program.  Students were in awe of the many replicas from the past and even got to touch a few!

Additionally, Stratfield had our CARES Assembly on Assertion last Friday.  In this assembly, students were able to see skits, sing songs, and hear a book all focused on Assertion.  A padlet was sent home earlier highlighting this assembly as well. We kicked off this week with our St. Baldrick’s Assembly led by Ms. O’Connor.  Further details will be sent home shortly regarding this amazing event. Lastly, we will see which team wins our “Souper Bowl” this week! Thank you to all for your generous soup donations!!!

Exciting events coming up in the next few weeks are listed below:

  • January 31st – 3rd Grade Discovery Museum Visit

  • February 4th – Amelia Earhart – Grade 2 and 3

  • February 6th – Safety Presentation by Officer Guilfoyle for Grade 4 and 5 Students
